NEW studies, medicines or treatments for interstitial cystitis?

Question by : NEW studies, medicines or treatments for interstitial cystitis?
I’m 18 years old. I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis in 2009. I’ve had kindey problems, such as stones & infections since i was 9 years old. Also been diagnosed with several other things that go along with I.C. I’ve tried so many different things, trying to find something to get rid of the pain. My flair up started August of 2011 and has not stopped since. I’ve been on Elavil, Elmiron, and several other normal medicines that are prescribed. I’ve had bladder treatments, 2 different types of the normal ones that are done. I’ve had a bladder distention. No help at all. They did find that my bladder only held 1/7 of the normal bladder & that when they stretched my bladder, all it did was crack & bleed. I’ve also done pelvic floor rehab. I’ve been on the diet for over 7 months now. & i do keep myself very strict with it.
Pretty much I have done everything that is “normally” done. I know other options are bladder reconstruction or removal. But I’m 18 years old, & thats not something that I would even consider at this point. I want to know if there is other options.Other treatments. Other medicines. New trials. something. I’m pretty much willing to try anything at this point. Most everything my doctor (which is a I.C. specialist) wants to try, contradicts with something else I am taking or something else I’ve been diagnosed with. Its a huge problem. I have kidney stones on a regular basis, sometimes passing them weekly. I’ve had several surgeries to bust them up. They removed 9 out of one kidney in one surgery. Also diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Some medicines cause constipation, therefore I have to take another medicine to reverse that. Also diagnosed with Dysautonomia, Taking Elavil flairs this up big time. Also diagnosed with a disease that is similar to Lupus.
There is just so much going on. I would like to find a doctor that can treat all of this. Because from my research this all goes together and is common together. Me going to different specialist for each thing is not working. They do not work together. One perscribes one thing, next one has to change that so they can perscribe whatever. Me & my mom have talked about trying to find a specialist for everything, but have no clue where to find one or how to.

can anyone tell me some new studies for I.C. or new medicines or new treatments. And a doctor that specializes in everything I have. Please. Any info will help

Extreme muscle tension not responding to anything (+ other symptoms)?

Question by Grace: Extreme muscle tension not responding to anything (+ other symptoms)?
I’ve been having these odd symptoms over the past few months: severe pressure at the base of my skull, lack of focus, it feels like my mind is physically unable to relax, cognitive problems, mild to moderate pain all over my body, irritable bowels, stiffness, and exhaustion. I realize most of these problems seem like they could be attributed to stress, and I thought that was the problem for a while. But this anxiety and depression seems unnatural, like my actual thoughts and attitudes aren’t consistent with what I’m experiencing. I don’t respond to any sort of stress-relieving techniques and exercise makes me feel much worse. My feet go to sleep really easily and go from purple to white to red, and sometimes (this winter it was bad, but my doctor says it doesn’t seem like frostbite?) when I take a shower they seriously feel like they’re on fire..and I have a semi-controllable twitch in my right cheek (massage therapist thought something seemed off in my jaw area) but it’s extremely tiring to have to tell myself not to do it. It feels numb, too.

But the weirdest symptom so far and that’s stuck out the most to my doctor and massage therapist (and me too obviously) is this severe muscle tension in my shoulders, neck and scalp. The first three times I got a massage the therapist said she could feel them releasing somewhat and was optimistic. But since that third time it had been getting worse, so I went to my doctor again who prescribed me muscle relaxants and referred me to a neurologist (mostly because of the head pressure). The muscle relaxants haven’t helped, and the tension and pressure keep getting worse. A couple days ago I went back to the therapist and she was shocked–couldn’t move my muscles more than a few millimeters, and even then they snapped right back. She told me I should see a neurologist too–that she thinks she was wrong about the tension being structurally-caused, but I can’t get in until the end of April.

Like I said, at first I thought it was just anxiety or something, and tried to ignore it, but…I don’t even have the mental energy to worry about anything, and it’s not like I ever worry about my health anyway. I feel awful constantly, and I’m at a point where I can say with hardly any doubt that these symptoms are real.

So, first question: what do you think this could be? Meningeal compression seems to fit my symptoms the best (like, most of them sound *exactly* like what I’m experiencing. except my pain hasn’t been that bad), but the feet thing and jaw thing don’t fit. My doctor thought Raynaud’s syndrome could be causing the symptoms in my feet, but it just seems unlikely that I’d have two neurological issues at the same time. I guess Lyme disease is possible too since I was near/in the woods this summer for a service project, and probably had a lot of uncovered skin.
Secondly, should I just wait another month or does it sound serious enough to be more proactive? I’m actually starting to get bad headaches now, not just pressure, and it’s extremely hard to concentrate/enjoy life at all. :(
and is it possible for a muscle relaxant to make muscle tension worse?

also – I’m a 16-year-old girl. Apparently meningeal compression is linked to fibromyalgia (have almost all symptoms of this too), which my grandma got at 17, but fibro is supposed to respond to massage..and the treatment doesn’t seem so great so I’m really hoping that’s not it. Meningeal compression can also be caused by “a spine change,” but I don’t fully understand what that means. The shape of my spine has definitely changed in the past few years but I thought it was just a postural issue or inherited body shape.

thanks to anyone who answers, sorry this is so long.

all the symptoms of fms are also symptoms of other things

Meningeal compression and fms ARE NOT related..

Meningeal compression may mimic fms

FMS IS NOT A SYMPTOM

http://www.nrc.md/articles/maningeal-compression-and-fibromyalgia-pain.html

We believe this compression creates myriad symptoms, one of which is fibromyalgia

the above statement is wrong

fms is a specific medical condition, not a symptom

but fms is a problem with the brain chemicals

look up chiari malformation
lyme literate MD

and it is possible to have 2 different conditions become noticeable around the same time—and at this point–the stress of feeling ill is contributing to the symptoms

fms is actually rare–it is highly over diagnosed–most people actually have something else..

and no FMS is not supposed to respond to massage–many people don’t–and its hard to tell if those that do actually had fms

Question by Pamela S: Has anyone out there, find their health at risk from the use of ZELNORM, I have used it for almost 5 yrs. scare
I am fearful of any ill effects from taking ZELNORM 2-3 times daily for almost 5 yrs. My family has history of heart disease. After finding the FDA removing it, due to the increase of cardiovascular, angina pectoris, chest pain(of course our doctors tell women it is just a panic attack..yada yada..) .Also causes shortness of breath, dizziness, stroke, trouble walking, fatigue, difficulty in speaking, all of these were found in their testing. I have IBS, Diverticulosis, GERD, High blood pressure, cholesterol, hypothyroidism, heart murmur, and am BiPolar. Now could anyone out there tell me if they should have been given such a medication to treat IBS, knowing this patients health history. My Grandfather died at 50, Father at 56, Uncle at 36, Mother at 69. I am at the present soon to be 54. Pharmacy has no answer, Doctor says he will replace w/ some other medication.by his receptionist of course, I fully trusted my Dr. but I have since found out this medication was meant for short term use.

Don’t get worked up about the possibility of a maybe. If you have had none of the symptoms before stopping Zelnorm you are probably fine. If you have any doubts, call your family doctor and ask him to run some tests. I’ve taken Zelnorm for almost as long as you, but only once a day and haven’t noticed any ill effects. I’m more worried about the IBS coming back along with the pain.

Does the drug “Bentyl” (Dicyclomine) help with nausea?

Question by USArocksnumberone: Does the drug “Bentyl” (Dicyclomine) help with nausea?

Best answer:

Answer by 0
“Gentle Bentyl” is generally prescribed for irritable bowl syndrome which results in pain in the abdomen and relief from an irritated colon and its side-effects, such as diarrhea.

It is not an anti-emetic, or a condition such as nausea. However, one of its side effects is the reduction of nausea resulting from Crohns disease. So it may help, possibly not.

Nausea can be helped by avoiding food for awhile, drinking non-acidic, or caffeinated beverages. Pepto-Bismol, is one of the old standard treatments for an upset stomach.

If it continues for several hours, you need to be checked out because dehydration is a serious problem caused by this constant loss of fluids from your body.

Help with IBS and shakey legs?

Question by cruisecrazy: Help with IBS and shakey legs?
Ok well I have been having HORRIBLE stomach pains. So the doctor thought it was IBS. So they put me on Levsin. My legs are really shakey and I was wondering if that was part of it? I have been on the meds for like a day and a half. But I have had an episode of shakey legs before I went to see the doctor. Is this part of IBS?

Best answer:

Answer by Diana G
I have Crohns, which is not the same but similar. I have only had shakiness for the following reasons:
1) low sugar, fixed with oj.
2) dehydration, electrolyte imbalance can effect your muscles.
3)low sodium. it was too low and also effected my muscles.
Sorry, but I have never taken the med. If it is bad, call the doctor.A call is free but you have to determine it’s severity. Did you mention this when you saw him/her? Good luck, hon
